Ingredients

Scale

Breadcrumb Topping

  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Dip Base

  • 16 ounce jar cocktail onions, drained well and chopped
  • 8 ounce block cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 Tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon white granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

Instructions

  1. Chop Onions: Drain the cocktail onions thoroughly and chop them into smaller bite-sized pieces. Set aside for mixing later.
  2. Prepare Breadcrumbs: Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Add panko breadcrumbs along with onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Stir continuously until the breadcrumbs turn golden brown and become crispy. Remove from heat and transfer all the breadcrumbs to a bowl.
  3. Separate Breadcrumbs: Transfer half of the golden breadcrumbs to another bowl to be mixed into the dip later. Reserve the remaining half for topping.
  4. Mix the Dip: In the bowl with half the breadcrumbs, add softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, ketchup, sugar, horseradish, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, oregano, black pepper, salt, cayenne pepper, dried parsley, and the chopped onions. Use a hand mixer to thoroughly combine all ingredients into a smooth, creamy dip.
  5. Chill or Serve: Transfer the dip mixture to a serving bowl. If not serving immediately, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate to let flavors meld.
  6. Add Topping and Enjoy: Just before serving, sprinkle the remaining crispy breadcrumb mixture and a bit more dried parsley on top for added texture and flavor. Serve and enjoy your Bloomin Onion Dip!

Notes

  • For best flavor, prepare the dip at least an hour ahead and chill to allow flavors to blend.
  • The cayenne pepper is optional and can be adjusted based on preferred spice level.
  • Make sure to thoroughly drain the cocktail onions to avoid excess moisture in the dip.
  • Use fresh panko breadcrumbs for optimal crispiness; avoid stale breadcrumbs.
  • This dip pairs excellently with toasted baguette slices, crackers, or fresh vegetable sticks.
