Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Cinnamon Swirl

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Cream Cheese Drizzle

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Appliance: Preheat the waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s guidance to ensure even cooking.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly mixed.
  3. Incorporate Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Pour this wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined, taking care not to overmix to avoid dense waffles.
  4. Prepare Cinnamon Swirl: In a small bowl, blend the melted butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until smooth. Transfer this mixture to a piping bag or a zip-top bag with a small corner snipped for easy swirling.
  5. Pour and Swirl Batter: Lightly grease the preheated waffle iron. Pour about 1/2 cup of batter into the center of the waffle iron. Pipe a spiral of the cinnamon mixture on top of the batter. Close the waffle iron and cook for approximately 3 to 4 minutes or until the waffle is golden and crisp. Repeat this process until all the batter and cinnamon swirl mixture are used.
  6. Make Cream Cheese Drizzle: In a bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Add in the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract, and whisk until the glaze is pourable and smooth.
  7. Serve: Serve the waffles warm with a generous drizzle of the cream cheese glaze on top for the perfect finishing touch.

Notes

  • For best results, do not overmix the batter to keep the waffles light and fluffy.
  • If you want thicker waffles, add a little extra flour to the batter for a firmer texture.
  • The cream cheese glaze can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator; warm slightly before drizzling.
  • Use non-stick spray or brush the waffle iron with melted butter to prevent sticking.
  • Customize the cinnamon swirl by adding chopped nuts or raisins for extra texture.
