Hissy Fit Dip is a rich and flavorful baked dip featuring a savory blend of ground sausage, cream cheese, sour cream, and a cheesy medley with a touch of spice from Rotel tomatoes and optional cayenne pepper. Perfectly baked until hot and bubbly, this dip makes an irresistible party appetizer or snack, garnished with fresh parsley or green onions for a pop of color and freshness.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage

  • 1 lb ground sausage (mild or spicy, your choice)

Dairy Base

  • 1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Flavorings

  • 1 10 oz can Rotel (diced tomatoes with green chilies), drained
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and crumbly, about 7-10 minutes. Drain the excess grease and set the cooked sausage aside to cool slightly.
  2. Mix the base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper if using, and salt and black pepper to taste. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  3. Add in the flavor: Stir in the cooked sausage, drained Rotel tomatoes with green chilies, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, and shredded mozzarella cheese. Mix all ingredients well to ensure an even distribution of flavors.
  4. Bake the dip: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9 or 8×8 inch baking dish, then spread the prepared mixture evenly into the dish. Bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly throughout and the cheese has melted completely.
  5. Serve hot: Remove the dip from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped parsley or green onions. Serve warm alongside tortilla chips, crackers, or toasted baguette slices for dipping.

Notes

  • Drain the sausage well to avoid excess grease in the dip.
  • For more heat, increase the cayenne pepper or use spicy sausage and Rotel with extra chilies.
  • Use a combination of cheddar and mozzarella for both sharp flavor and creamy texture.
  • This dip can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving.
  • Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
