Deliciously moist Nutella Banana Swirl Muffins combining the natural sweetness of ripe bananas with the rich, creamy hazelnut spread. Perfect for breakfast or a snack, these muffins have a delightful marbled Nutella swirl that adds a chocolatey twist to the classic banana muffin.

Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

Additional

  • 1/2 cup Nutella (warm slightly if too firm for easier swirling)

Instructions

  1. Preparation: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with liners or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
  2. Mash Bananas and Combine with Butter: In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas thoroughly with a fork, then stir in the melted butter until the mixture is well combined.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients and Flavorings: Mix in baking soda, salt, and sugar into the banana mixture. Add the beaten egg and vanilla extract, stirring until the batter is smooth.
  4. Fold in Flour: Gently fold the all-purpose flour into the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined to avoid overmixing, which can make muffins tough.
  5. Fill Muffin Tin and Add Nutella: Spoon half of the batter equally into the muffin cups. Create a small well in the center of each muffin portion and place about a teaspoon of Nutella into each well.
  6. Top and Swirl Nutella: Cover the Nutella with the remaining batter. Then, using a toothpick or knife, gently swirl the Nutella into the batter to create a marbled effect.
  7. Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.
  8. Cool: Let the muffins cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely, enhancing texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas for the best natural sweetness and moist texture.
  • Warming Nutella slightly makes it easier to swirl into the batter.
  • Avoid overmixing the batter to keep muffins tender and airy.
  • Store muffins in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
  • To make this recipe gluten-free, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend.
